BEAUTY STANDARDS AND HOW YOU CAN F***ING BIN THEM

Hello, I don’t like beauty standards - I know, shocking isn’t it.

Beauty standards, if you're not aware, is the bullshit that beauty companies and the media like to sell us so we all feel ugly and buy their product/service to make ourselves fit their standards of beauty. 

Well newsflash, women have always been beautiful. 

This have been going on for decades, back when Marilyn Monroe was seen as the epitome of beauty and any woman that didn't look like her was ugly. 

Thats not to say Marilyn Monroe wasn't beautiful she was, she just wasn't the only beautiful women of her time. 

And it's the same now. Women are criticised, bullied and downright pushed into changing themselves to fit into this tiny mould that society (mainly men) have decided is how we should look.

You've got to be slim but not too slim.

Big boobs and arse but no fat anywhere else.

Short but not too short that you look tiny next to them, but not taller than men cos that's gross. 

Dainty and elegant at all times, but one of the lads when he wants you to be. 

Perfect skin but never wears make up. 

Your hair never frizzes but its not dead straight, a natural beauty wave. 

You have to look like Kim K, but without the surgery. 

So just a normal girl then, right?

WRONG.

These women do not exist. Even the women that do use painful surgery to try and meet these ridiculous ideals. 

And it's got to stop. 

Not only are these beauty ideals damaging beyond belief to young girls and women, they're also incredibly racist. 

So what can we do about it? 

Reject the idea that women need to fit into a mould, practise self love, don't bully other women for their appearance, buy from brands that champion diversity and do not support people/brands who are selling you these beauty standards. 

Because disabled women, plus sized women, black women, brown women, asian women, trans women, gay women, bi women, pan women, older women, women with moles, women with eczema, women with birth marks, women with skin conditions, hairy women, women with acne, and every other way a woman can be deserve to believe they’re beautiful. 

Because they are.
